Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the INSPIRE Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Age Requirement: Applicants should be between 17 and 22 years old.

• Academic Qualifications:

Performance in Class 12: Students who are within the top 1% of their Class 12 examination in any State or Central Board.

National Level Competitive Examinations: Students who have secured ranks within the top 10,000 in examinations such as JEE (Main), JEE (Advanced), NEET, and have opted to pursue courses in natural and basic sciences.

Scholarship Holders: Students who are National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) scholars, Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) scholars, or International Olympiad medalists opting to pursue courses in natural and basic sciences.

• Course Enrollment: Applicants must be enrolled in undergraduate (B.Sc./B.S.) or integrated master’s (M.Sc./M.S.) programs in natural and basic sciences at recognized institutions in India.

• Note: Professional courses such as engineering, medicine, agriculture, and others are not eligible for this scholarship.

Selection Process

The selection process for the INSPIRE Scholarship involves the following stages:

• Application Screening: All applications are initially screened to verify eligibility based on academic performance and other specified criteria.
• Evaluation by Subject Expert Committee (SEC): Eligible applications are evaluated by a Subject Expert Committee, which assesses the academic merit, research proposal (if applicable), and the profile of the host institution and research supervisor.
• Final Selection: Based on the evaluations, a merit list is prepared, and provisional offer letters are issued to selected candidates.

Important: Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee selection. The final decision is based on the comparative merit of applicants and the availability of scholarships.

Benefits of the INSPIRE Scholarship

Selected scholars receive the following benefits:

• Annual Scholarship: ₹60,000 per annum, disbursed in monthly installments of ₹5,000.
• Mentorship Grant: An additional ₹20,000 per annum for undertaking summer research projects under the guidance of active researchers in recognized research centers in India.
• Total Financial Support: ₹80,000 per annum.

Note: The mentorship grant is intended to provide opportunities for scholars to engage in research activities during summer vacations, enhancing their learning experience and exposure to the scientific research environment.
