Stenographer Grade ‘C’ |
Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years of age as of 1 August 2024 to apply for the SSC Stenographer Recruitment. This means they must have been born on or after 2 August 1994 and on or before 1 August 2006 to be eligible to apply. |
Stenographer Grade ‘D’ |
Candidates must be between 18 and 27 years of age as of 1 August 2024. This means they must have been born on or after 2 August 1997 and on or before 1 August 2006 to be eligible to apply. |

Educational Qualification
Candidates must have completed the 12th standard or an examination equivalent from a recognised Board or University.
The SSC Stenographer Recruitment selection process consists of two stages:
- Stage I: Computer-Based Examination
The Computer-Based Examination (CBT) will be MCQ-based, having 200 questions for 200 marks. Except for the English language section, the CBT questions will be bilingual (Hindi and English).
- Stage II: Skill Test
- Candidates will get shortlisted for the skill test based on their performance in the computer-based test. The board will conduct a skill test that will only be qualifying in nature. Candidates should know that the skill test is mandatory, and those who do not take it will not be considered for the final selection.
- Final Selection: The final selection and assignment to the various Ministries/Departments under SSC Stenographer Recruitment will include the CBT score and the candidate’s preference of Post/Department.

Skill Test in Stenography
- In the Stenography Skill Test, candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi (as specified by the candidate in the online Application Form) at a speed of:
100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and
80 w.p.m. for Stenographer Grade ‘D’.

- Note: Candidates who choose to take the Stenography Test in Hindi will be required to learn English Stenography and vice versa after their appointment, or their probation may be terminated by the appointing departments/organisations.
